Devon Cup 2016 Final Standings After Race 9What a season...... the last round of the Devon Cup hosted by Mid Devon CC on the S4 turned out to be one of the fastest days for several years, with host clubs Conrad Moss smashing the course record and a lot of riders riding personal best times. It was a great finale to an exciting season.
2016 saw an increase in the number of women riding in the Devon Cup this season, a total of 17 women took part.... which is over 10% of the mens field. Fantastic achievement, lets try and get over 20 women taking part next year. Which leads me nicely on to the final standings in the womens race.
This season saw a turnaround in the final standings, with Zoe Betteridge of North Devon Wheelers taking top spot with Nik Rorke, Exeter Wheelers in 2nd place, Crystal Spearman, NoPinz in 3rd, Sarah Lakey, Mid Devon in 4th and Liz Hill of Alltrax rounding up the top 5 awards.
In the mens standings Matt Slater of Revo Racing goes one position better than last year to win the overall title. With Ian Cullen, Mid Devon in 2nd place, Lubos Obornik, CS Dynamo in 3rd, James Tribble, Mid Devon in 4th, Gavin McDougall in 5th. In the Over 40\'s category Steve Hockings-Thompson, CS Dynamo takes 1st place, in the Over 50\'s Mark Sanders, Mid Devon takes 1st place, and Chris Scawn of Plymouth CCC wins the Over 60\'s.
CS Dynamo have a third prize winner this season in Ryan Dunn winning the Under 18\'s category. In 2017 I can see Ryan becoming a serious contender for a top 5 finish in the Devon Cup, after placing 1st and 5th overall in his 2 races this season.
In the Devon Challenge Lubos Obornik of CS Dynamo proved the most consistent rider this season and on top of his 3rd place overall, wins the Devon Challenge for the first time.
With 159 men taking part in the Devon Cup this season it was great to see some new riders coming through. With Ian Cullen and James Tribble of Mid Devon CC both finishing in the top 5 for the first time and Matt Slater, Revo Racing also winning overall for the first time, there should be some really exciting racing again next season.
I\'d like to thank all clubs and riders for their support again..... Now let\'s show how strong Devon is again in this coming weekend\'s Devon vs Cornwall Cup.
Bring it home again Devon !!!!

The Devon Cup Standings After Race 7Rob Scott and CCCRT hosted round 7 of the Devon Cup which was also the South West District 50 Mile Championships.
In the womens standings Zoe Betteridge, North Devon Wheelers won her second race on the trot and also won the Divisional District 50 Champs. Crystal Spearman, NoPinz finished second, winning enough points to take her back into the lead in the womens standings after race 7 by one point over Zoe. Catherine Hilton, Sid Valley moved into 5th place and chasing her for 5th place are Rebecca Timothy, Revo Racing, Liz Hill, Alltrax and Sarah Lakey, Mid Devon.
In the mens standings Mid Devon duo of Conrad Moss and Matt Langworthy finished first and second. Lubos Obornik, CS Dynamo still leads the standings, with Matt Slater, Revo Racing moving up into second place. Ian Cullen changed places with Mid Devon team mate James Tribble, they now sit 3rd and 4th respectively. Steve Hockings-Thompson, CS Dynamo moves up to 5th for the first time this season, Chris Scawn, Plymouth CCC still leads the Over 60 and moves up to 6th place overall. Tom Moran, Plymouth CCC holds onto the first Over 50 place with Ryan Dunn retaining the U18 lead.
There are now two rounds left. Both on the S4/25, which is proving to be a fast course this season. On 28th August Exeter Wheelers host round 8 and on 11th September Mid Devon host the final round 9.

The Devon Cup Standings After Race 6North Devon Wheelers hosted race 6 on Sunday and attached are the current standings.
In the Womens standings Nik Rorke of Exeter Wheelers takes over the lead for the first time this season from Crystal Spearman, NoPinz. Zoe Betteridge and Sally Pope of North Devon Wheelers retained their 3rd and 4th positions respectively. Liz Hill of Alltrax is now joined in equal 5th by Catherine Hilton of Sid Valley.
In the Mens race Lubos Obornik of CS Dynamo remains in 1st place overall and still leads The Devon Challenge. The Mid Devon CC\'s quartet of James Tribble, Ian Cullen, Simon Medlyn and Dominic Start move up to 2nd,5th,7th and 9th overall. Dominating the top 10 positions.
CCCRT host this Sunday\'s Round 7 of The Devon Cup which is also the South West District 50 Mile Champs. On the start sheet are 11 women and nearly 60 men to date, with most of the \"big hitters\" in the southwest racing. This race could have quite an effect on the top 10 placings in both the womens and mens Devon Cup standings, as the S4/50 course is quite hilly.
After the 50 there are just 2 Devon Cup races left, which are 28th August, Exeter Wheelers 25 on the S4. Then on 11th September Mid Devon Wheelers host the final 25 miles tt on the S4. Then a week later on the Camel Valley S103/10 the top 15 riders in the Devon Cup will face the top 15 riders in the Cornish Cup for the Devon Vs Cornwall trophy. Devon has won this cup for the last 2 seasons, but I think this year Cornwall may have a slight advantage as they are racing on a course they use regularly throughout the season.
Thanks for your continued support.

The Devon Cup 2015
Final StandingsOn Sunday Mid Devon CC hosted the final round of The 2015 Devon Cup on the S4-25. The host clubs Conrad Moss again broke the course record with a stunning 49.30 to take the win from Gary Chambers of RNRMCA, with Matt Slater of Exe Velo 3rd. By taking the overall win Conrad pipped Matt Slater on the final race of the season to retain The Devon Cup. Matt finished second overall with "Mr Consistency" Gavin MacDougall of Tavistock Wheelers finishing 3rd overall and retaining The Devon Challenge trophy for the second time. The Devon Challenge is for all riders who have competed in every round of The Devon Cup.... that's commitment !!!
Jack Salvidge of Exeter Wheelers finished 4th overall in the standings.... and he's still under 18 !! Nick Harwood of Revo Racing finished 5th overall. Lubos Obornik of CS Dynamo just pipped Julian Harper of Exe Velo for 1st place in the OV40 category. Mike Rose, Exeter Wheelers, won the OV50 category with Chris Scawn of Plymouth CCC finishing 9th overall and 1st in the OV60 category. In the Under 18 competition, Matt Langworthy of Mid Devon CC finished in first place. Chris Shakya of Exeter Wheelers finished 7th overall in his first full season of timetrialling and got consistently faster as the season went on.
For the first time in The Devon Cup we had a Womens competition. It was good to see we had 13 different women competing, representing 7 different clubs from the region. Crystal Spearman of Nopinz finished first overall with Catherine Hilton of N1Tri 2nd overall, Rebecca Timothy, Revo Racing 3rd, Nik Rorke, Exeter Wheelers 4th and Zoe Betteridge, North Devon Wheelers in 5th.
We are sure that in 2016 the Womens competition will attract more riders from the clubs already in The Devon Cup and inspire other Southwest clubs who already have women riders racing in Southwest TTs to join.
Trophies for all categories will be presented by Simon Edney at the Revo Racing 10TT at the S4-10 on 27th September 2015..... This race is also the Devon Cup Vs Cornwall Cup. Devon won emphatically in 2014 and rumour has it that Cornwall are coming across the border with a strong team to take the trophy back to Cornwall with them this year !!!
I would like to thank all Club Secretaries, event organisers and all riders who have supported The Devon Cup again this year.
Come on Devon !!!!
